Mr. Chen is the Programme Officer at the International Renewable Energy Agency’s (IRENA) Innovation and Technology Centre (IITC) in Bonn, Germany. He has been with IRENA since 2012 and now is leading the sustainable urban energy programme with a focus on developing the methodologies of assessing renewable energy options to meet the energy demand in cities. Prior to his role in Bonn, Yong spent six years as a Regional Programme Officer for Asia and the Pacific with the Country Support and Partnership team at IRENA’s Headquarters in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. He not only profiled the Agency in the region by facilitating the adoption and use of IRENA’s knowledge products, but also led and contributed to the technical assistance and thematic studies in the Asia-Pacific region.
Ove the past five years, Mr. Chen has taken the role as Co-chair of the Renewable Energy Track at the Asia Clean Energy Forum (ACEF) hosted by Asian Development Bank, to support the Forum in identifying the topics for the sessions, reviewing and culling the abstract submissions, and providing thought leadership for the overall track and each of the individual sessions.
Before joining IRENA, Mr. Chen had been working for 15 years in the field of energy and environment with a focus on renewable energy technologies and policies in Sweden, the USA and China.
Seth Schultz is Executive Director of The Resilience Shift which exists to make the world safer through resilient infrastructure. He has a long track record of building consensus and initiating change in the field of sustainable development, urban resilience, and of raising international awareness on the role of cities in tackling climate change.
With over 20 years of experience, Seth’s background is as a geologist and environmental scientist. Driven by the need to create change in urban sustainability he has worked with leading and innovative organisations in this space including the Louis Berger Group, the US Green Building Council, the Clinton Foundation, C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, the Global Covenant of Mayors, and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), where he was Co-Chair of the Scientific Steering Committee for Cities IPCC and served as a lead author on the ground breaking IPCC Special Report on 1.5 Degrees.
Seth sits on various boards and advisory councils, is a sought-after speaker and guest lecturer, and has authored numerous articles, reports, blogs and thought leadership pieces around the world. He has a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from Binghamton University.
